Today we (11 yr old and 10 yr old) did not have camp and were home just the two of us. We decided to keep busy that we would make a new outfit for our American Girl Doll, Molly.

When we took out our scraps of fabric, there was more green than anything else. And because we love Peter Pan and planned on having Molly dance to “You can fly”, we made her a Peter Pan outfit.
First we made the hat with the red feather. We had to sew a seam to keep the 2 small green pieces of fabric together.
Then we took the large piece of green fabric and wrapped around Molly and tied it with leopard ribbon.
Now we are ready to make Molly dance! We’re going to take pictures of her while we pose her and then thread all the photos together to make a YouTube video of her dancing to “You can Fly” from Disney’s Peter Pan. We’ll let you know when the video and photos are ready!
Our garden is planted. We bought some seeds and some plants, some herbs and some pretty flowers for around the edges.
The flowers are purple impatiens and lemon flowers. They should both climb down the edges of the garden, hiding the concrete block.
The center of the garden is filled with:
- Rutgers Select tomatoes from seed
- Roma toatoes from plant
- Big Bertha Bell Peppers from plant
- Jalapeno peppers from plant
- Zucchini from plant
- Sugar snap peas from seed
- Black eyes Peas from seed
Around the edges where we don’t have flowers we have a rosemary plant, a mint plant and seeds of green onions, Spanish onions and carrots.
It took about 2 hours to buy everything and plant it all. We also bought 2 6-foot bamboo posts we cut into 3 peices and hammered into the ground as labeling steaks. We used a permanent marker to write on the bamboo so we could remember what was planted where. We also made a chart on paper. We’ll see if the permanent marker lasts, I’m not convinced it will weather the elements.
I’m happy the hardest parts of the project are done. The drip irrigation was set up by Daddy yesterday and we can have an hour of watering every day directly where we want it without wasting water around the yard or walking around with a hose in the heat.
When we have extra tomatoes to share, I’ll let you know.
What do you grow?
Do your kids moan and groan at shower time? I ask my daughters to take a shower and it’s like asking them to throw their Webkinz away or something. A friend with a teenager said – just wait, in 3 years you won’t be able to get them OUT of the shower!
I say to them “I must be the meanest mom in the world because I don’t want you to stink! Do you really want to be the girl at school with the smelly hair?”
Am I alone on this?
